    Job Description

    DLZ Corporation has an excellent opportunity for a Assistant Surveyor - Survey Mapping in our South Bend, IN office!

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform surveying & mapping assignments of a limited nature, requiring knowledge of basic surveying principles and the exercise of professional judgment.
    • Perform work under close supervision, and/or provide support to more experienced personnel.
    • Typically given projects of minor complexity, with training leadership levels and technical responsibility can increase.
    • Make exact measurements and compile information for the determination of property boundaries. Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation, or dimension of land or land features on or near the earth's surface for engineering, construction, and other purposes.
    • Perform surveying and mapping projects utilizing Unmanned Aircraft Systems (drones), aerial LiDAR, mobile LiDAR, static LiDAR, or any combination of the above.
    • Perform LiDAR and drone feature data extraction and base map production.
    • Assist office, survey and right-of-way acquisition personnel with project description and location, determining legal boundaries, interpretation of deeds, etc.
    • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

     JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying / Mapping, GIS, Geomatics, Geography or another related field.
    • 0 – 3 years relevant experience
    • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) preferred.
    • Experience with LiDAR, GIS Remote Sensing, and/or surveying preferred.
    • AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Bentley Micro station, or ArcGIS experience preferred.
    • Ability to visit and safely traverse project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements, including a valid driver’s license.

    NOTE: This position will work primarily in the office preparing drawings of data collected by field staff.
