    Job Description

    DLZ Corporation currently has an Environmental Geologist / Scientist or Engineer opening in Lansing, MI.

     

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Perform environmental, geological, and/or engineering assignments of a varied nature, requiring a solid understanding of environmental and scientific principles, and regulatory requirements applicable to specific investigations or studies; and the exercise of professional judgment. 
    • Responsible for projects of minor to moderate complexity and may have leadership responsibility for less experienced staff.  
    • May assume lead role in a segment of a project and/or coordinating work of specialty groups related to assigned project.
    • Perform work with general guidance and supervision, or provide support to more experienced personnel.
      Field work 50 – 90% of the time, may require overnight stays and work in other States with DLZ offices.
    • Lay out borings, clear utilities, communicate drilling requirements to necessary staff, and coordinate drilling activities with drill crews.
    • Accurately log and classify soil and rock sampling for a wide range of environmental projects involving solid and/or hazardous waste sites.
    • Conduct various form of analytical testing, and prepare labels, chain-of-custody and any other related documentation in accordance with project-specific sampling and analysis program.
    • Supervise and coordinate groundwater monitoring well installation; perform well development, purging and sampling, along with necessary field measurements.
    • Assist in conducting geophysical surveys, soil-gas surveys and explosive gas monitoring surveys, including the design and installation of permanent or temporary explosive gas monitoring probes.
    • Perform surface sampling at solid and/or hazardous waste sites, including sampling at underground storage tank sites or other sites involving petroleum fuel release.
    • Perform monitoring and on-site of UST closure and other field activities solid and/or hazardous waste sites, along with field monitoring and documentation of corrective actions.
    • Maintain a day-to-day description of field activities and prepare daily field records.
    • Maintain sample documentation and coordinate work activities with testing laboratory and/or personnel from other DLZ divisions/subcontractors providing support services for the project.
    • Review title, regulatory, governmental and historical data from available sources to establish property history, including personal contact with individuals and officials. Perform site reconnaissance, physical inspections, surveying, and data collection as needed.
    • Assist in and conduct environmental compliance studies, review of regulations and environmental impact studies involving activities such as the assessment and delineation of wetlands.
    • Assist with the design of structures, systems and equipment items for remediation systems.
    • Assist in the preparation of feasibility studies, design documents and bid specifications.
    • Prepare written technical reports and assist in proposal preparation.
    • Perform all work in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with the Health and Safety Plan.

     Job Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental studies, geology or related engineering field
    • 1 to 5 years relevant experience
    • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Registration a plus.
    • OSHA 40 Hour Training and applicable 8 Hour refresher updates beneficial.
    • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience with Hydrogeology modeling and statistics
    • Must be willing to travel for field work, have a valid driver’s license, and ability to pass a driver’s record check.
    • Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements.
